Sir Gerald Barry

(1898-1968), Journalist

In 1948 the journalist and editor Gerald Barry was appointed Director General of the Festival of Britain by Herbert Morrison. Under Lord Ismay's chairmanship, Barry oversaw a massive programme of building, displays and events, celebrating the centenary of the 1851 Great Exhibition. He was knighted in 1951.
