Sitter in 20 portraits
Comedian and writer; began his career as a solicitor's clerk, but soon achieved success on the provincial stage; his first play, Luke the Labourer, was produced in 1826 and over one hundred further dramas followed; Buckstone made a highly successful career as a comic actor and was manager of the Haymarket Theatre 1853-6.
