As an author and theologian, Chubb's writings, which questioned the divinity of Christ, ignited much controversy. He published numerous tracts, amongst them, 'The Supremacy of the Father Asserted'(1715) and 'The Previous Question with regard to Religion' (1725) which ran to four editions and won him praise from both Voltaire and Alexander Pope.
