Sitter in 28 portraits
Campbell commanded the Highland Brigade during the Crimean War (1854), including at the Battle of Balaclava. At the outbreak of the Indian Mutiny (1857), Lord Palmerston offered Clyde the command of the forces in India. He led the final relief of Lucknow (1857) and was created Baron Clyde in 1858, bringing the rebellion to a final end in December of that year. He returned to England in 1859 and was made a Field Marshal.
