Sitter in 1 portrait
Goss was one of the last composers to devote himself to church music. In 1824 he was appointed organist at St Luke's, Chelsea and in 1838 he succeeded his teacher Thomas Attwood as organist at St Paul's Cathedral, a post he held from 1838 to 1872. During his career, Goss composed many important anthems, orchestral works and glees.
