Artist of 1 portrait
Haden worked for forty years as a surgeon. He sought relaxation from his professional work in the art and study of etching. It is for his etched work, and for his writing on etching, that he is best known. He executed more than two hundred etchings and mezzotints over the twenty years when he was also busiest with his medical work. He exhibited etchings in the Royal Academy from 1860 to 1885, most often under a pseudonym. Haden was one of the most important spokesmen for etching in nineteenth-century England. His contribution towards the increasing professionalism of the art included the foundation in 1880 of the Society of Painter-Etchers, whose president he remained until his death.
