it is likely she managed the family's domestic arrangements during periods of considerable financial pressure caused by Hood's unlucky investments. His popularity and support of literary friends ensured Jane was granted a civil-list pension following his death.

Jane Reynolds Hood (1791-1846) was the eldest daughter of George Reynolds and his wife Susanna, and sister to the poet John Hamilton Reynolds (1794-1847) who was a friend of John Keats the poet (1795-1821). For Jane Reynolds Keats wrote two poems, 'O Sorrow!' (October 1817) and 'On a Leander Gem which Miss Reynolds, my Kind Friend, Gave Me' (c. March 1817).
