General. He served as Sir John Moore's aide-de-camp in the retreat to Corunna, 1808, and with Wellington in the Peninsular campaign, defeating the French at Barossa, 1811, and commanding the left wing at the Battle of Vittoria, 1813. He led an unsuccessful expedition to Holland in 1814.
