He was noted as a progressive commander, who like his brother, Sir John Moore, did his bit to modernise and improve the conditions of the sailors under his command. Two notable reformers in an age of transition. Wonderful pair of portraits of the brothers used to hang, side by side, in the London’s National Portrait Gallery in the early 1960s.
