Sir Christopher Prevost, Bt.

Lt. Colonel John Phipps is my 4th Great Grandfather. He died at Woolwich on April 5, 1798 aged 63 and is buried at St. Nicholas Churchyard at Plumstead with his wife. He became a Major-General in 1793. His son George William Phipps (1761-1841) was a Lieutenant-General and is also buried there.. There was a memorial to all three at St. Nicholas, but the Vicar told me that the cemetery had been bombed during WW2 and the memorials damaged. The memorial is recorded in the 'Notitia Historica of the Corps of Royal Engineers' Vol. 2, page 89 at the Royal Engineers Museum, Chatham. I gave the Museum all the sons Commissions. The memorial only states that the father's wife was Mrs Phipps, but I believe she was Jane MacLeod (1744-1805) but I have never been able to verify this. Could you please tell me which is John Phipps in the picture and do you have any further information?
