Brian Hubert Robertson, 1st Baron Robertson of Oakridge
(1896-1974), Military commander and administratorSitter in 19 portraits
General. Robertson was decorated in the First World War, and between the two world wars was Managing Director of Dunlop, South Africa. He re-joined the army in 1940 and proved to be a brilliant military administrator. Living in Germany between 1945 and 1950, he rose from Deputy Military Governor to become the UK commissioner in the Allied High Commission (1949-50). With American colleagues he was responsible for organising the airlift to counter the Soviet Union's attempted blockade of Berlin.
