Stuart-Wortley entered Parliament as an MP in 1823. He served in several government offices, including Secretary to the Board of Control. He was an enlightened agriculturist and a cultivated man and was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1829. He was author of A brief inquiry into the true award of an equitable adjustment between the nation and its creditors (1833).
