Artist and cartoonist; joined Punch staff, 1850, and contributed over two thousand cartoons, mostly political. Tenniel is best remembered for his illustrations to Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, 1865, and Alice Through the Looking-Glass, 1872.
