(1873-1956), Marshal of the Royal Air Force

Air Marshal, known as the 'Father of the Royal Air Force'. Trenchard obtained his air pilot's certificate and was seconded to the Royal Flying Corps in 1912, becoming commandant of the Military Wing in 1914. He commanded the RFC in France (1915-18) and served as chief of air staff (1918).
