A Student (Fellow) of Christ Church, Oxford, from 1845 and a Tutor from 1852, Tyrwhitt became Vicar of the University Church, St Mary Magdalen, in 1858. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, wrote A Handbook of Pictorial Art (1866) and was a friend of Ruskin.
