William Vincent

(1739-1815), Dean of Westminster

Sitter in 7 portraits
Vincent started at Westminster School in 1748 and became a King's Scholar there in 1753. He remained associated with Westminster until his death and was only absent from it during his years at Cambridge University, which he entered in 1752. On graduating in 1762, Vincent returned to Westminster School as an assistant master. He was ordained into the Church of England later that year. In 1771, he became Under Master at Westminster and he was also appointed Chaplain to the King. Vincent was appointed as Headmaster of the school in 1778 and he remained in this post until 1802, when he became a Prebendary of Westminster Cathedral. He was made Dean in 1805.
