Christina Hambley ('Tina') Brown

Sitter in 5 portraits
Born in Maidenhead in 1953, Brown's literary talent was recognised while still an undergraduate at Oxford. From 1979 at the age of twenty-five, Brown edited the Tatler and transformed it into a modern glossy magazine, commissioning celebrated photographers and writers. She gained further prominence in America as the editor of Vanity Fair (1984-92) and the New Yorker (1992-8), in each case revitalising sales through her understanding of contemporary interests. She is the author of Life As a Party (1983) and The Diana Chronicles, a biography of Diana, Princess of Wales (June 2007). In 1981 she married Sir Harold Evans, former editor of the Sunday Times.
