Sitter in 6 portraits
Novelist and critic; Burgess established a reputation for satiric social commentary, notably with A Clockwork Orange (1962), a powerful analysis of violence; the 1971 film version was considered by its director, Stanley Kubrick, so pernicious an influence that he withdrew it from public release. Other works by Burgess include Earthly Powers (1980) and his autobiography, Little Wilson and Big God (1980).
