Nina Hamnett
(1890-1956), PainterSitter in 1 portrait
Artist of 2 portraits
Nina Hamnett was a painter and illustrator. She studied at the Pelham School of Art, the London School of Art and at Marie Wassilieff's Academy in Paris, where Fernand Leger taught. Hamnett's unconventionality among the artistic quarters of Montparnasse and Fitzrovia, where she also modelled for many artists, earned her the title 'Queen of Bohemia'. From 1913 to 1919 Hamnett worked at the Omega Workshops on decorative art. She exhibited widely during World War I and the 1920s in solo and group shows, including those of the London Group, the New English Art Club and the Salon d'Automne.
