Artist of 2 portraits
William Logsdail is best known as a genre painter of large scale metropolitan scenes, particularly London landmarks. Throughout his life he used his friends as models for his works. A frequent exhibitor at the Royal Academy, Logsdail was one of the first artists to exhibit at the New English Art Club in 1886. The Royal Collection, the Guildhall Art Gallery and Birmingham City Museum and Art Gallery all own examples of his work. In later life he turned to a lucrative career as a portraitist, following the success in 1907 of a painting of his daughter, titled An Early Victorian, at the RA exhibition. He was elected to the Royal Society of Portrait Painters in 1912.
