Post-war architect, Sir Philip Powell studied at Epsom College and later at the Architectural Association. He was considered the 'Father of Humane Modernism'. Co-Founded a practice with Hidalgo Moya in 1946. He designed the Chichester Festival and Theatre, the Churchill gardens apartment complex and also the Skylon Instillation at the Festival of Britain. One year after opening his practice with Hidalgo Moya they became the first to win the RIBA Gold Medal for architecture as a practice. He was knighted, aged 54, after years of dedicated work as a member of the Royal Fine Arts Commission.
