Sir John Tresidder Sheppard

(1881-1968), Provost of King's College, Cambridge

Sitter in 19 portraits
A lecturer in classics at King's College (1908-33) and then Provost of King's (1933-54). He translated many famous Greek classics; his books on the subject include Greek Tragedy (1911) and The Pattern of the Iliad (1922). He was knighted in 1950 for his services to Greek.
