Painter; Born in Edinburgh, Walker attended the Slade School of Fine Art where she was taught by Walter Sickert. She first exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1898, where she was a regular exhibitor of portraits into the 1920s and 30s. She joined the New English Art Club in 1900 and was also associated with the Robin Hood's Bay group of artists. She represented Britain at the Venice Biennale in 1930 and 1932. In 1939 she represented Britain at the World Trade Fair in Chicago with Nausicaa, now in the collection of Tate Britain. She was made a Dame Commander of the British Empire in 1943.

A painting by Dame Ethel Walker entitled Portrait of a Lady hangs in the Blakeney Suite at Cliveden House. The lady holds a black cat. Her identity is not known at the time of writing but I seek further information.
