Sitter in 2 portraits
Wollheim's writings on art and the philosophy of mind are widely regarded as having made a significant contribution in both areas. His work is particularly informed by psychoanalytic theory. He was Grote Professor of mind and logic at University College, London 1963-82, Professor of Philosophy at Columbia University 1982-85, and at the University of California, Berkeley from 1985. His published writings include two major works in the philosophy of art, Art and its Objects (1968) (in which he coined the term Minimal Art) and Painting as an Art (1987); within the philosophy of mind, his principal publications are On the Emotions (1999) and The Mind and its Depths (1993).
