Born and educated in Wales, Neil Kinnock entered Parliament in 1970. In 1978 he was elected to the Labour Party National Executive and was Chief Opposition Spokesperson on Education from 1979 until 1983. Leader of the Labour Party from 1983 until 1992. In 1995 he was appointed Member of the European Commission responsible for Transport and was Vice President of the European Commission from 1999 until 2004. He entered the House of Lords as Baron Kinnock of Bedwellty in 2005.
