Francis Dodd was a painter of realistic portraits, landscapes and genre, and etcher. Dodd studied at Glasgow School of Art, after which he visited Paris, Italy and later Spain. He settled in Manchester 1895, then moved to London in 1904. Dodd exhibited at the New English Art Club from 1894, and was a member from 1904. As a war artist, he made a series of portraits of military and naval commanders, some of which are housed at the Imperial War Museum.
