In the 1880s and 1890s Jean de Paleologu was one of an international group of artists who worked for Vanity Fair magazine. They produced caricatures of many of the leading characters of the day, including artists, athletes, royalty, statesmen, scientists, authors, actors, soldiers and scholars. He signed his works ' PAL '.
