John Burke(circa 1843-1900), Photographer
Artist of 3 portraits
John Burke was a commercial photographer operating variously from Murree, Peshawar and Rawalpindi, India. In the Afghan War he was employed by the Army as a Photographic Artist and recorded the exploits of the Peshawar Valley Field Force. Following a disagreement with the Army about his conditions of employment he promptly left Afghanistan. Some years later he formed a partnership with W. Baker, and together in 1872 they published an extensive catalogue of Indian views.
