Leibovitz first came to prominence while she was working as a photographer for Rolling Stone magazine. She became its chief photographer in 1973 and, by the time she left the magazine, ten years later, she had shot 142 covers. She joined Vanity Fair in 1983 and in 1998 also began working for Vogue. Leibovitz has also created many advertising campaigns. She has worked with numerous arts organisations, and exhibitions of her work have appeared at museums and galleries around the world. Her books include Photographs: Annie Leibovitz, 1970-1990 (1991), Olympic Portraits (1996), Women (1999), American Music (2003) and A Photographer's Life 1990-2005 (2006).
