Frances Evelyn ('Daisy') Greville (née Maynard), Countess of Warwick
(1861-1938), Society beauty and socialist writer; wife of 5th Earl of WarwickSitter associated with 42 portraits
Frances Evelyn ('Daisy') Maynard was the daughter of Colonel Charles Maynard and his second wife Blanche Fitzroy. 'Daisy' became heir to the Maynard estates in 1865 and she married Baron Brooke, the future 5th Earl of Warwick in 1881. Lady Brooke became an accomplished society hostess who began an affair with the Prince of Wales to dull the exposure of her affair to Lord Charles Beresford. As a philanthropist her contributions included a needlework school at Easton and Studley Agricultural College for Women. Her interest in socialism saw her hosting gatherings of socialists and trade unionists at Easton. She also kept there a menagerie of animals and birds.
