(Frederick) Louis MacNeice
(1907-1963), PoetSitter in 13 portraits
Born in Belfast, he lectured in Classics at Birmingham University and Bedford College, London. He was associated in the 1930s with the poets Auden and Spender. In 1941 he joined the BBC as a scriptwriter. His published works include Autumn Journal (1939), Collected Poems 1925-48 (1949), Solstices (1961), and his autobiography The Strings are False (1966).
