(1797-1869), Novelist and traveller; sister of the Earl of AucklandSitter in 2 portraits
A novelist and traveller, Emily Eden accompanied her brother, George, 2nd Baron Auckland to India in 1836 where she acted for him as hostess while he was governor-general. She published Portraits of the People and Princes of India'(1844), Up the Country (1866) and two society novels, The Semi-detached House (1859) and The Semi-attached Couple (1860).
