Nigerian-born, Clacton-on-Sea raised singer born Helen Folasade Adu; she epitomised the wine bar chic of the yuppie 80s with her mix of cocktail jazz, soul and chart-friendly pop. Hits included the singles Your Love Is King, Smooth Operator (both 1984) and albums Diamond Life (1984) and Promise. After a seven year career break she returned with a highly successful tour of America and a best selling album Lovers Rock.
