My grandfather's sister (Beatrice Ida Barker) married Sir Guy Laking, 2nd Bart. He was King's Armourer and was instrumental in founding the armour collections at the Tower of London and Wallace Collection and he was the first director of the London Museum. I have an oil painting of Sir Francis Laking (physician to Edward VII and it was he with Frederick Treves who persuaded the King to postpone his coronation to have his appendix removed!). He was made a baronet for this and the painting I have shows him in his full regalia! I also have a drawing of Sir Guy Laking but I cannot decipher the signature. I have a helmet drawn by Guy and the Wallace Collection may be interested in this. I inherited these works from my grandfather, Charles Russell Barker, who was brother-in-law to Guy (and one of Guy's great pals). Would any of these portraits be of interest to you?
