My paternal grandfather was the
Diwan of Gangpur
Princely state in Orissa, India.
All of our family archive photograph collections are directly from Edna Lorenz the label is printed on each photograph.
They are true epitomes and great examples for our current family to continue the legacy of having great archive photographs.
I am continuing to have my own children and our family photographed this way to continue the great legacy of our
Diwan Family.

My Grandfather, the Chief Minister of a small
Native State in Rajputana (now Rajasthan)in 1910 to 1930's was a great Shikari too. One of his photos posed with a tiger he just hunted was enlarged and framed by Edna Lorenz sometime during that period and the original framed photo still adorns my living room. I could not get any further information on this photographer

Hello Soumitra
I have just found an old photograph of my father taken during the war, and said to my husband the reverse side of the photo is very interesting. The stamp said: Edna Lorenz 30, Chowringhee Calcutta. Subsequent copies can be ordered by quoting this number ----- I suppose during the war she took photos of British servicemen to earn some money. But like you I love to know more. At least a photo of her. I have been to India many times, but to Calcutta only once, I wish I had had this photo with me when I went there, so I could have located the address of her studio.

I have a portrait photograph of His Holiness the current 14th Dalai Lama in his throne in the Potala Palace, Lhasa, Tibet taken circa 1940-1941. On the back is a Edna Lorenz studio stamp and reference number. The photographer is unknown. Possibly it was Kanwal Krishna of the British Mission headed by (Sir) Basil Gould or slightly later by the Brook Dolan / Ilya Tolstoy 1942 American mission (but doubtful as the child Dalai Lama looks to be younger) or by a Tibetan (e.g. Tsarong) or by Wu the Chinese delegate to the Dalai Lama's enthronement 1940. Is there another copy of this photograph anywhere?
