Sir James Dyson

The industrial designer James Dyson began designing a bag-less vacuum cleaner in 1978 and sold the first models in 1991. Others of his inventions include a bladeless fan and an ultra-efficient hand dryer. In 1993 he opened a research centre and factory in Wiltshire. The James Dyson Foundation encourages young people to consider engineering as a career and the annual James Dyson award recognises young inventors.
