Scorer of a record 60 league goals in a single First Division season leading Everton to the Championship in 1927/28. Scored 377 goals in 431 appearances for Everton after signing from Tranmere Rovers for £3,000 in 1925. Bill Dean's tanned skin and curly black hair earned him the nickname 'Dixie', after the black slaves of America's 'Dixieland' states. Stunned medics by returning to professional football months after fracturing his skull in a motorcycle accident in 1926. Won 16 England caps scoring 18 goals. Captained Everton to the 1931/32 league title and scored in their 1933 FA Cup final win versus Manchester City.
