Anne Campbell (née Lucas)

(1940-), Statistician and politician

Labour MP for Cambridge (1992-2005). Campbell took a special interest in science and technology, education and economic affairs. From 1983 until she was elected to parliament, she was head of statistics and data processing at the National Institute of Agricultural Botany in Cambridge, running a department with national responsibilities for analysing data from crop trials. Educated at Newnham College in Cambridge, she taught mathematics at Cambridge secondary schools before becoming a senior lecturer in statistics at Cambridgeshire College of Arts and Technology (now Anglia Polytechnic University).
