Nora Ratcliff David (née Blakesley), Baroness David

(1913-2009), Educationist, County Councillor and Justice of the Peace for Cambridge

Nora David is a Labour Party politician and life peer. Born Nora Blakesley, she married Richard David in 1935, the year that she graduated from Cambridge. She was a Councillor in Cambridge (1964-74) and was a Justice of the Peace in the city from 1965 until her death in 2009. She was raised to the life peerage as Baroness David of Romsey in 1978. She was an opposition spokesperson on education from 1979 until 1985 and again from 1987-97, and for the environment from 1985 until 1987. She was also a government and opposition whip from 1978 to 1987.
