Primatologist and conservationist; Scientific Director, Gombe Wildlife Research Institute, Tanzania, since 1967. Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute (1977) and the Roots & Shoots programme (1991). Author of numerous works on chimpanzee behaviour and maker of documentary films for television including Fifi's Boys (BBC, 1995).
