Actress who debuted on the London stage in Sorry You've Been Troubled (1930). Wynyard soon became established as a leading lady in the West End and from 1948 to 1950, she performed with the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre, which increased her repertoire and reputation as an accomplished actress. Her few film performances included Cavalcade (1933), which earned her an Academy Award nomination, and Gaslight (1940). Wynyard was appointed CBE in 1953.
