(born circa 1792), Sri Lankan Buddhist priest, baptised by Adam Clarke

Sitter in 1 portrait
Sri Lankan Buddhist priest who developed an interest in Christianity after reading the New Testament, printed for the first time in Cingalese (Sinhalese) by Wesleyan missionaries in Colombo. He travelled to England with his cousin Sree Goona Munhi Rathana Vadheygay (both high priests of the temple of Doodandhuve, near Galle) in 1818 with the chief judge of Ceylon, Hon. Sir Alexander Johnston. After a period of Christian instruction, he and his cousin were baptised in 1820 by Adam Clarke.
