Edmund Hector was a surgeon at Birmingham General Hospital and as a schoolboy and later was a friend of Dr. Johnson in Lichfield and Birmingham. Boswell's Life of Johnson has several stories about him and there are letters to him written by Johnson. His memorial tablet is in Birmingham Cathedral and he lived at 1 Old Square in Birmingham where Johnson visited him. There is a memorial frieze on the spot today.
