Charlotte Wolff

(1897-1986), Physician, psychotherapist, sexologist and chirologist

Wolff was awarded a medical doctorate in Berlin in 1926, and later specialised in chirology (hand reading), psychotherapy and sexology. Wolff immigrated to England in 1936. In 1941 she was made a Fellow of the British Psychological Society. She published Psychology of Gesture in 1945 and The Hand in Psychological Diagnosis in 1952. Her landmark studies, Love Between Women and Bisexuality were published in 1971 and 1976 respectively. Later books included Hindsight, an autography (1980) and Magnus Hirschfeld: A Portrait of a Pioneer in Sexology (1986).
