Chantal Joffe studied at Glasgow School of Art (1988-91) with Ishbel Myerscough and at the Royal College of Art (1992-4). She is a painter in the figurative tradition and works from photographic source material as a way of reflecting upon the contrived nature of female representation. Her first solo exhibition was in Venice in 1999 and she has been represented by the Victoria Miro Gallery since 2000.
