Willi Soukop

(1907-1995), Artist

Soukop studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Art in Vienna before first coming to England in 1934 to stay and work at Dartington Hall, a hub for émigré artists in the interwar period. In 1945 he moved to London to teach at Bromley College of Art (1945-6), Guildford College of Art (1945-7) and Chelsea School of Art (1947-72), where he was an early teacher of Elisabeth Frink, and he also exhibited frequently. In 1969 he was made a Royal Academician and Master of Sculpture at the RA Schools. His work is in the collection of Tate.
