Dame Wendy Hall

(1952-), Professor of Computer Science, University of Southampton

Hall is a pioneer of multimedia and hypermedia and currently Regius professor of Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton. She is interested in the impact of Web science on society and has been instrumental in promoting women in her field. She studied mathematics at Southampton University before obtaining a MSc in computing at City University, London. She returned to Southampton in 1984 to join the Computer Science Group, creating the hypermedia system Microcosm before the World Wide Web. Managing Director of the Web Science Trust, appointed a DBE and elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2009.
