Mathangi Arulpragasam grew up in Sri Lanka before studying art, film and video at Central Saint Martins College of Art. Her first hit singles 'Galang' (2004) and 'Sunshowers' (2004) were followed by debut album Arular (2005), which was shortlisted for the Mercury Music Prize. Her later albums are Kala (2007) and Maya (2010). In 2009 she co-wrote the Oscar nominated song 'O..Saya' for the film Slumdog Millionaire.
