Noel Clarke

A British film director and actor of Trinidadian descent, Noel Clarke grew up in west London with his mother. He studied Media at the University of North London. His 2002 performance in Where Do We Live? at the Royal Court Theatre earned him the Laurence Olivier Award for Most Promising Newcomer. Clarke is best known for his screenplays and for his debut film performance in Kidulthood (2006), and its sequels Adulthood (2008) and Brotherhood (2016). In 2009, Clarke won the BAFTA Orange Rising Star Award and, in 2010, he wrote, directed and acted in the film 4.3.2.1. In 2017, he appeared in an episode of the BBC’s Who Do You Think You Are? where he traced his ancestry, which included Glasgow Bedeau, who was born into slavery on a small Caribbean island and lived to become an emancipated landowner. In 2018, Clarke set up his own production company Unstoppable, and was invited to become a member of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, the body which votes on Oscar nominations and winners.
