He was a member of the British Expeditionary Force Supplimentary Reserve 1936 as a Grenadier Officer and evacuated at Dunkirk
He went back into Normandy in 1944 as a Captain and later promoted Major in the 4th Battalion No 3 Squadron Grenadier Guards Armoured Division
